Overview | dextran gel G-200 is a bead-like gel that contains a large number of hydroxyl groups, it swells easily in water and in the electrolyte solution. Type G glucan gels have various degrees of cross-linking, and therefore their degree of swelling and fractionation range are also different. The degree of swelling of the dextran gel is essentially unaffected by the presence of salts and detergents. |
Chemical stability | dextran gel G-200 is insoluble in all solvents (unless it is chemically degraded). It is stable in water, salt solutions, organic solvents, bases and weakly acidic solutions, and in strong acids, the saccharide bonds of the gel skeleton are hydrolyzed. Prolonged exposure to oxidizing agents will destroy the gel and should therefore be avoided. |
Application | dextran gels have different particle sizes. Ultra-fine grade glucan gels are used for column chromatography and thin layer chromatography that require extremely high resolution. Crude and intermediate grade gels are used in preparative chromatography processes to achieve higher flow rates at lower pressures. In addition, the coarse stage may also be used for batch processes. |
